Morrisville-Eaton Central Schools Welcomes A New Assistant Superintendent

With the retirement of Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Support Services, Debra Everson in December, the District conducted a search for her replacement in the fall and selected Robert Avery as her successor.  Mr. Avery began work for MECS on December 11, in time to begin developing the budget for the upcoming school year as well as to assist with the oversight of the District’s capital projects this spring.

While new to New York State, Mr. Avery has served as a school business official in Wisconsin for eleven years.  He is a recognized school business leader in Wisconsin, having served as President of the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) and was a frequent speaker on leadership and school finance for WASBO conferences.

Mr. Avery grew up in Dubuque, Iowa, a small industrial city on the Mississippi River before attending college at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He moved to Madison, WI to attend graduate school at the University of Wisconsin.  Mr. Avery returned to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater to earn a Master’s of Science in Education, majoring in school business management.  This academic preparation and his work experience qualified him to become a certified School District Business Leader by the New York State Department of Education.

Prior to becoming a school business official, Mr. Avery was the transportation director for a district outside of Madison.  He also worked on the school finance team at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (education department).

“I am thrilled to be working for MECS. While the basics of school funding are the same across the nation, the devil is in the details.  And I looking forward to the challenges of learning the ins and outs of school finance in New York, as well as bringing my leadership experience to our District.”
