Senate Chambers

On January 25th, the Senate Education Committee, Shelly Mayer, took part in a webinar where she sounded the alarm on school funding. Governor Hochul has proposed reductions in State Aid to about 350 school districts. Morrisville-Eaton is one of them.

Over the last two years, MECS has experienced limited State Aid which has resulted in very tough budget cycles. This year's outlook is grim. We anticipated developing the 24-25 budget was going to be challenging, but we never expected the Governor's proposal to be so devastating.

Senator Mayer encouraged us to have our residents let their legislators know the importance of adequate school funding. Please consider e-mailing Senator Griffo: griffo@nysenate.gov, Assemblyman Angelino: angelinoj@nyassembly.gov, or Assemblyman Miller: millerb@nyassembly.gov and ask them to provide what is necessary to give our children the same opportunities as the children in wealthy suburbs and cities.

Without adequate funding, non-required programs and services are in jeopardy. We will continue to work hard to give our children access and opportunity, but we need the state to provide financial support to keep up with inflation, mandates, and overall student need.
